The World Needs More Humanity!

Numerous ministers and the President of Cyprus also supported this event, making everything a complete success. At the Spectrum Congress Center of the Girne American University, in addition to DMW representatives and members from around the world, ambassadors, diplomats, parliamentarians, scientists, politicians, and business people participated.

Since President Prof. Günther Meinel could not attend personally, his opening speech was read on his behalf. In it, he emphasized that human rights are the foundation of our common humanity. It is our shared duty to ensure that these rights are respected and promoted and protected everywhere in the world. This also includes advocating for those who have no voice. As diplomats, we are in a unique position to advance this perspective. We should remember that our most important duty in the world of international affairs is to serve humanity. "Through our joint efforts, we can transform the international stage into a more just, compassionate, and humane arena for all."

Specifically, he also drew attention to the division of Cyprus, which represents a problem in the world and could not yet be resolved despite many efforts.

Vice President Halil Sert then stated in his address that human values are a balancing factor as the most universal, sacred, and effective remedy to be applied against aggressions, which primarily affect civilians and children. Initial steps in the right direction are therefore mutual respect, tolerance, and empathy for one another, in order to achieve progress through cohesion.

Sert pointed out: "We live in a world where development is constantly gaining importance" and we should not forget that behind all these innovations and developments, people always stand. We must begin to listen to one another and see other perspectives, focus on social justice, find sustainable solutions, and drive change through smaller gestures already in daily life.

Dr. Serhat Akpınar pointed out in his speech the problems of the world and emphasized that humanity is the essential characteristic of human coexistence. They are not limited to specific regions, religions, or ideologies but apply universally. As Secretary General of the democratic party, he specializes in this as a principle. At the same time, as Rector of the American Girne University, he guides students to become highly educated specialists in their fields, who come from 120 countries.

The other speakers also set themselves the goal of drawing attention to the necessity for more humanity in the world to secure peace. That diplomacy in particular has an essential mission to resolve and prevent conflicts.

Here too, the German singer Miriam Geiger proved through her musical framing of the event that singing and diplomacy belong together. Through this, hearts and souls are opened to achieve better access to people and thus tune them into the theme of a more peaceful world.

Furthermore, we have again connected with elites in Cyprus who are committed to international understanding. We met with Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertugruloglu to discuss efforts for equal rights for citizens in Cyprus.
