Prof. Akpınar recognized early on the importance of higher education and the economic strength of well-trained students; in 1985 he opened university branches in Canterbury, Istanbul, Karpas, Hong Kong, Washington D.C., and Chișinău, and today students from 105 countries are enrolled at Girne American University.
Diplomat Training
We place high demands on future diplomats. At the Academy we have established that diplomats must possess very specific skills. Beyond the honor, acceptance to the Academy is a special distinction. A diplomat must live this mission; merely holding an official passport does not make someone a diplomat.
Candidates must have the ability to empathize, put themselves in others’ situations, understand actions, and recognize their causes. They must not seek confrontation but work toward constructive agreement for humanity. The diplomatic code demands the ability “to endure injury without wishing to injure in return.”

Our trainees must bring exceptional analytical capabilities to detect possible escalations in time. In addition to prudence, intelligence, knowledge, and integrity, quick comprehension is a requirement for admission.
